IEC 60034-30

At present there are various standards of efficiency for asynchronous motors in the various regions and countries throughout the world. There are also great differences, whether these are standards, i.e. a recommendation, or a statutory regulation. In addition to the various standards and laws for efficiency classes there is a wide range of different test methods for the determination of efficiency. Therefore, an international comparison of individual efficiency classes is not only difficult; the certification of motors for individual markets is also very expensive.

Because of this, the IEC has developed a new standard which is intended to harmonize efficiency classes throughout the world. The new standard IEC 60034-30-1:2014 is to replace the different national systems. At the same time, with the IEC 60034-30-1:2014 standard, a new procedure for the measurement of efficiency has been introduced which also contributes to international harmonization.

Because of these legal requirements, not only are users compelled to use energy-efficient drive units, but manufacturers are also obliged to produce optimum efficiency drive units, which results in enormous costs and a logistical challenge.
