Communication occurs via a serial connection (RS485). PROFIBUS DP is specified in the IEC 61158 and IEC 61784 standards. The field bus system uses layers 1 (Physical Layer), 2 (Data Link Layer), and 7 (Application Layer) of the OSI layer model.

DeviceNet

Devicenet Schnittstellen für dezentrale und zentrale Frequenzumrichter von NORD Drivesystems DeviceNet is an open communications profile for industrial automation systems belonging to the family of CIP-based (Common Industrial Protocol) networks.
It is based on the CAN (Controller Area Network) bus system that describes layers 1 (Physical Layer) and 2 (Data Transmission) of the OSI model (Open Systems Interconnection Model = reference model for network protocols as layered architecture) (ISO 11898).
The DeviceNet profiles are defined in the CIP application layer.

CANopen

CANopen Schnittstellen für dezentrale und zentrale Frequenzumrichter von NORD Drivesystems CANopen is an open communications profile for industrial automation systems.
It is based on the CAN (Controller Area Network) bus system thatdescribes layers 1 (Physical Layer) and 2 (Data Transmission) of the OSI model (Open Systems Interconnection Model = reference model for network protocols as layered architecture) (ISO 11898).
Layer 7 of the OSI model defines the CANopen profiles (application layer, connector assignment, and transfer rates).

Ethernet Powerlink Schnittstellen für dezentrale und zentrale Frequenzumrichter von NORD Drivesystems POWERLINK is a real-time Ethernet protocol for transmission of real- time data in the microseconds range.
POWERLINK is primarily used to transmit process data in automation systems. The Ethernet connections uses layers 2 (data transmission) and 7 (application layer) of the OSI model (Open Systems Interconnection Model = reference model for network protocols as layered architecture, ISO 11898).
In layer 7 of the OSI model, POWERLINK integrates the CANopen profiles.

EtherNETIP Schnittstellen für dezentrale und zentrale Frequenzumrichter von NORD Drivesystems EtherNet/IP is an open communication profile for industrial automation systems using the basic technology of Ethernet TCP/IP and the CIP (Common Industrial Protocol) application protocol.
The system is based on the OSI model (Open Systems Interconnection Model = reference model for network protocols as layered architecture).
The adaptation of EtherNet/IP to CIP is implemented in the tree upper layers (5...7), the adaptation of CIP to EtherNet/IP in the four lower layers (1...4).

Ethercat Schnittstellen für dezentrale und zentrale Frequenzumrichter von NORD Drivesystems EtherCAT being a real-time Ethernet protocol uses standard frames and the physical layers of Ethernet standard IEEE 802.3. EtherCAT has been disclosed in the IEC 61158 standard.
Each bus subscriber of this Ethernet only retrieves data intended for itwhile the telegram sent by the bus master passes through. Output data is also inserted into the telegram in the same way. At the same time, it is forwarded with a slight delay (few nanoseconds). The bus subscriber identifies the commands intended for it and executes them. The last bus subscriber returns the fully processed telegram so that the first bus subscriber can return it to the control unit like a response telegram. Addressing the EtherCAT bus subscribers is not required. The bus master (PLC) does this automatically according to the physical bus connection order.
