Short customer profile
Baumalog is a Polish mechanical engineering company thatproduces automatic storage and transport systems used inmany industries. The company designs, produces and installs solutions for theautomation of processing runs (especially in the fields of sheetmetals, profiles, bars and other materials with differentdimensions and weights), and for the increase of processefficiency in internal logistics, that optimise the material flowduring the production process as well as during picking anddispatch. Baumalog is also the Polish distributor for automatic verticallift racking systems of the Italian Modula company.
Baumalog uses NORD drives for all offered storage automationsolutions. Among others, the company sees its advantages in the highefficiency, reliability, quiet running, wide product range andeasy installation. Baumalog has been using drive solutions fromNORD DRIVESYSTEMS for itsdesigns for many years now: inverters and geared motors with high efficiency and absolute reliability.
Special project features
Storing components used in production is one of the majorchallenges for manufacturers. The higher the sales figures, the higher the demands on thestorage management and the more important the technicalreliability: everything has to work out trouble-free. The automation of storage and transport processes allows for aconsiderable increase of the production potential coupled withincreased safety at work.
In this field, the market offers individual and ultra-modernsolutions that use the latest technology for robotics,automation and IT. The correct setting of the automatic storage system improvesthe logistic processes which in turn reduces the number offaults caused by human error, and allows for shorter lead timesfor customer orders.
Automatic pipe and profile warehouse
The automatic pipe and profile warehouse has been developedaccording to specific customer requirements. The eight metre high warehouse consists of a supportingstructure with two rows of shelves, each with five columnscontaining 68 moving racks. Each rack measures6200 × 450 × 600 mm and is able to carry loads of 1750 kg. A further aspect is the respective control. The system was equipped with a mobile loading station thatallows for the profiles to be loaded outside the warehouse andtransported into the warehouse. In addition, there are two mobile unloading stations that workhand in hand with the travelling cranes and the laser-cuttingtools for the profiles in the warehouse. The whole system works fully automatically. By order of the operator at the control panel, the respective products are moved to one of the unloading stations. Six NORD gear units were needed for the warehouse columnand the loading and unloading stations supplied by Baumalog.
Getriebebau NORD is one of the market leaders in theproduction of mechanical and electronic gear units. The comprehensive NORD product range also comprisesintelligent mechanical and electrical solutions that allow for aflexible configuration for the storage automation. With fast delivery at advantageous prices. For this project, NORD supplied six gear units with powers of0.75 kW to 3 kW.
In addition to the mechanical solutions, electronic NORD drivesystems are also used in the Baumalog-designed automatedwarehouse. NORDAC PRO frequency inverters are used tocontrol the geared motors. The variable cooling concept ensures an optimum heatdissipation. The positioning module not only offers the possibility ofpositioning the drive axes independently from the higher-levelcontrol, but also the relative positioning. The installed NORD products ensure every imaginablemovement in this project. The gear units allow for the operation of the storage andretrieval device on tracks between the high racks, themovement of the vertical conveyor to take materials from theshelf or to return them to the shelf, as well as the horizontalmovement of the racks and the movement of the verticalconveyor to the warehouse column.
They also control a loading and unloading station outside thebuilding, and unloading stations inside the building from wherematerials are brought to the laser cutter. The automation of storage and transport processes for profilesat Retech contributed to a significant improvement of theproduction process and an increased work safety. The use of high-quality components (e.g. NORD gear units) alsoensures a smooth and trouble-free operation of the entiresystem.
