NorStone is Norway's largest producer of crushed stone and gravel products. As in many gravel pits, quarries and similar operations, the conveyor belts in the Tau gravel works are powered by universal joint shafts and belt drives. Then, HeidelbergCement AG decided
to change over to robust geared motors from NORD
. Successfully. The direct drives have made a significant contribution to the improvement in reliability of 4.5% within three years. The NORD
geared motors
not only brought increased reliability and a reduction in the time and costs required for maintenance, but also the investment costs for the purchase of new gear units were comparatively lower.
"With the conversion from universal shaft joints and belt drives to direct geared motor drives from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS, we first of all avoid the considerable wear on the belts. As well as this, water and dust cannot enter the drives The decision for the solution with compact and robust geared motor units brought clear advantages and has proved to be a wise choice" summarises Per Thu, Production Manager at the NorStone works.
