NORD optimizes torque of worm gear units

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has optimized the performance of the UNICASE™ worm gear units, making it unnecessary - depending on the application - to upgrade to a larger size gear. Less wear increases the reliability and durability of the gear units. The adaptation of the worm gear units is in line with NORD's aim of innovative and tailor-made drive solutions based on an extensive modular product range for more than 100 industries.

The NORD development team has increased the maximum torques of the UNICASE™ worm gear units by 10-15 percent, without changing the dimensions and shape of the gear units. The reliable and efficient drive solution offers more power without the need to modify existing configurations. Since the housing dimensions remain unchanged, existing gear units can be easily replaced during maintenance or repairs. An additional advantage is that this also allows smaller worm gear units to be used without compromising the required power. This saves costs and installation space and offers more freedom in the design of machines and systems.

The mounting dimensions have not changed, but in order to achieve higher torques, NORD has used new shafts with larger bearings and has additionally reinforced the worm gear itself. The current UNICASE™ worm gear unit series offers powers from 0.12 to 15 kW and torques between 90 Nm and 3,000 Nm. Other product advantages include smooth and quiet running, high overload capacity and robust construction. High axial and radial loads ensure high (operational) reliability and a long service life.

The UNICASE™ worm gear units in cast iron housing from NORD are available in various versions, completely tailored to the application: with hollow or solid drive shaft, and for shaft, flange or foot mounting. The optimized worm gear units naturally work perfectly with the well-known electric motors from NORD. Motor mounting via an IEC/NEMA adapter is also possible.
