Project Requirements

Europe’s largest biomethane plant is currently under construction along the Küsten Canal in Friesoythe, Lower Saxony. The plant, backed by investor REVIS from Münster, will process one million tons of dung and liquid manure annually from the surrounding region to produce biomethane. This biomethane will either be fed into the gas network or liquefied into LNG. PRG Präzisions-Rührer GmbH from Warburg is supplying the agitators for the plant.

Application Solution

For the PRG agitators, NORD’s MAXXDRIVE® series provides custom industrial gear units designed to handle maximum load capacity. To ensure even higher operational reliability, NORD integrates the SAFOMI-IEC adapter (sealless adapter for mixers) on the drive side. This compact, easy-to-install adapter combines the functions of a standard IEC adapter and an oil expansion chamber into a single component, specifically developed for agitator drives.

The reliability of the drives plays an important role for the new plant. Together with the tanks, they are exposed to all kinds of weather 24 hours a day and must provide smooth operation 365 days a year. Using NORD solutions, it was possible to extend the first oil change to 20,000 operating hours – this corresponds to an operating time of two years.

Project Requirements

By 2050, DHL aims to eliminate its logistics-related emissions entirely. To reach this goal, the global transport provider is leveraging the latest technologies and sustainable solutions, including those at its logistics center at Cologne Bonn Airport. The DHL hub spans 12,000 m² of warehouse space and has a sorting capacity of 10,000 parcels per hour.

Application Solution

At the Cologne Bonn Airport hub, 800 NORD LogiDrive systems and 268 stand-alone motors are used in a variety of applications, including curved conveyors, conveyor belts, mergers/pushers, vertical conveyors, telescopic conveyors, and lifters. LogiDrive is an energy-efficient, service-friendly, and standardized modular system consisting of a motor, gear unit, and frequency inverter. For the logistics center, NORD selected a combination of an IE4 permanent magnet synchronous motor, a two-stage bevel gear unit or a helical gear unit, and the NORDAC LINK frequency inverter, which is installed directly near the motor.

In 2050, DHL wants to be emission-free. The topic of energy efficiency is therefore of highest priority to us. The building in Cologne/Bonn is CO2-neutral and is equipped with latest technologies, such as an ice storage tank for heating and cooling. For the conveyor belt drives, energy efficiency as well as short maintenance intervals have also been the main requirement. NORD was able to deliver this to us and therefore we are very satisfied with the NORD drives.

Project Requirements

Jütro GmbH & Co. KG Konserven und Feinkost, based in Jüterbog, Brandenburg, specializes in the development and gentle preparation of high-quality, long-life foods. In 2021, Jütro launched a new PET bottling plant in collaboration with NORD DRIVESYSTEMS and other partners. The plant is capable of producing around 70,000 bottles per shift. Given the growing challenge of finding qualified personnel, the plant was designed from the outset for maximum automation and throughput.

Application Solution

At the heart of the new PET bottling plant are NORDAC PRO SK 550 P frequency inverters and NORD geared motors. These drive solutions are essential for plant operations. To support maintenance, the frequency inverters—ranging from 0.25 to 1.5 kW in power output—are equipped with Ethernet connections for remote support. Through online maintenance, suppliers of various plant components can monitor the entire system, detect faults, and analyze data from the NORD frequency inverters. Another key advantage of the frequency inverters used in the plant is their vector control, which ensures consistent drive speeds across the system.

Industrial Gear Units Ensure Safe Bridge Crane Operation

Project Requirements

PROTEA, a Polish manufacturer specializing in hoisting equipment, is developing a new bridge crane designed to transport bales of straw for biogas production. The crane will be built with two independent track cranes for increased flexibility and efficiency.

Application Solution

For the bridge cranes, PROTEA relies on NORD’s MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units. An 18.5 kW MAXXDRIVE® XD gear unit powers the hoisting mechanism. These new parallel gear units build on the proven UNICASE housing design and have been specifically optimized for handling external loads. Thanks to the elongated gear stages, the housing features a large center distance, which enables a U-shaped drive layout. This design makes it easy to position the cable drum and motor on the same side of the gear unit, a key advantage for hoisting gear drives. Additionally, the drives for the cranes and trolleys also use MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units, with power ratings of 0.55 kW and 11 kW.

The one-piece UNICASE housing guarantees high durability and low maintenance costs. Double seals ensure smooth operation without leakage.
